Plain X-ray

A former-patient has kindly given an account of their experience when they visited the x-ray room.

Purpose:
A routine chest x-ray

Experience:
I arrived at a mobile x-ray unit and after checking in I was asked to strip down to my waist but then just put my jacket back on.

When my turn came I went into the x-ray room, took off my jacket and the radiographer asked me to stand in front of the x-ray machine with my chin resting on top of the screen. Leaning against the screen, with my bent arms extending sideways, the radiographer asked me to stand still. She then went behind the nearby screen and when ready asked me to hold my breath. A few seconds later the procedure was over and I was allowed to put my clothes back on and prepare to leave.

I was told the results would be sent to my GP within the next couple of weeks.

Duration:
The whole time spent in the mobile unit was about ten minutes, and really only depended on the number of persons being seen.

Side effects:
The procedure was not uncomfortable and there were no side effects.
