The Ultrasound Machine

The Ultrasound machine uses high frequency sound rather than x-rays to produce images of the body, There is no known hazard from ultrasound during its use in medicine for over 40 years.

High frequency ultrasound is reflected from tissues and organs of different types in such a way that pictures of the internal structure of the body can be produced.

Frequently the examination uses the peculiar feature of a change in frequency of sound when it encounters a moving object, the Doppler Principle, to demonstrate blood flow in the body. This is important in the detection of deep vein thrombosis and diseases of the arteries.
