Preparation for angiography

Before you come to the X-Ray department for your angiogram and possibly even before you come into hospital, a few checks need to be made to be certain that there is as little risk to you from the angiogram as is possible. We will need to know of any things that might affect what we do for you. Do you have Diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or are you taking any drugs, such as anticoagulants, which we need to know about? You will be seen by someone who will check all of these things. This may be the surgeon or physician who sends you to us or it may be a doctor on the ward when you come into hospital. It might also be your radiologist or one of the Specialist Nurses who work in the X-Ray department. They will ensure that everything is in order for your angiogram and explain to you what will happen. You may need some blood tests checking at this time too. You may be asked to sign the consent form at this interview, but you will still be able to ask questions after this if you are not clear about any part of what is happening.
