Simulator Registrar
Hello, I'm Dr Becker, but most people call me Lou. I'm a specialist registrar in clinical oncology. I did my medical degree (MBChB) in Manchester and then I had a series of junior hospital jobs in medical specialties (neurology, cardiology, chest medicine and the like). I passed both parts of the membership, so now I m MRCP as well as MBChB. When I was doing my medical jobs I spent six months as a houseman on the oncology unit. Much to my surprise, I found I really enjoyed it. That's when I decided I wanted to specialise in oncology. I've been training for three years now and still enjoy it. I've passed the first part of my FRCR exam and will sit the second part in about 6 months time. I was dreading having to do physics again for first part FRCR but it turned out to be all pretty practical stuff, not too bad after all. I spend about half my time with patients having Chemotherapy and the other half I spend with patients having Chemotherapy. It's never boring. I'm not actually completely in charge of what's going on here at the moment. Mostly it's the radiographers: my consultant is lurking in the background, making sure that I'm doing everything properly.
